Amanda Lavonia Watson Dennis, the matriarch of the Watson family, departed from her earthly life July 11th 2022 with her son and daughter at her bedside.
Amanda was born in Darien, Georgia on October 27th, 1947, to the late Thomas James Watson, Sr. and Alfreda Parsby Watson. She was the 2nd of ten children. Amanda was proceeded in death by sisters Carolyn Watson Akins and Victoria Watson, one brother Joseph Watson and Grandson Delron Fields.
Amanda graduated from Todd Grant High School in Georgia Class of 65 and moved to Providence RI shortly after. Amanda’s impeccable work ethic led her to serve 20 years at the Monet Group. She worked for the Urban League of Rhode Island for 10 years and the Providence school system 10 years.
Amanda joined Harriet Tillman Temple #59 in 1982. She received her Past State honors in 1983. She received Elkdom's highest honors of Past Grand Daughter Ruler in 1995. She is the District Deputy for the Oret Liberty Council for Providence RI and New Bedford Mass. Amanda, has served almost every seat in her Temple serving as Daughter Ruler for 4 years at the time of her passing she was serving as Trustee and 2014 was named Daughter of the year.
Amanda leaves to cherish her memory two children, son Delbert Watson and daughter Jacqueline Watson-Gardiner (Donver). all of Providence RI Four sisters Beverly Watson Shirley Watson Jemison of Providence RI Evelyn Martell of Jacksonville Fl and Thomasa Watson of Darien Ga; two brothers Thomas Watson Jr. and Howard Watson (Teandra) both of Providence RI; seven grandchildren ,8 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Tuesday, July 19th from 10:00 – 11:30am at Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln, followed by a homegoing service at 11:30am. Burial will follow graveside in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
